Dickinson defeats Jamestown, 29-27

October 1, 2026  ·  Football  ·  WDA Sports

DICKINSON - Dickinson was staring at a 14-point deficit as the fourth quarter began against visiting Jamestown on Oct. 1 at the Biesiot Activities Center. However, the Mavericks had one thing going for them. Quarterback Nate Stevenson had a hot hand.

The senior put together a pair of scoring drives in the quarter and two successful two-point conversions from the eight-yard line to give Dickinson a 29-27 win. Stevenson hit Cooper Orton on a 43-yard TD pass and then passed off to running back Wyatt Turner in the flat for a 13-yard scoring play. Stevenson then scampered away from tacklers and scooted in the end zone on a two-point conversion to provide two critical points and the Mavs' first lead.

Jamestown, however, would not go quietly. Quarterback Brady Nenow guided the squad down the field in the final 3:11. And set up a 26-yard field goal attempt in the final seconds. However, Chase Traut couldn't get much on the kick and it fell shot of the goal posts. The win evened Dickinson to 1-1 in West Region play and 5-1 overall. Jamestown, meanwhile, fell to 0-2 in the West Region and 1-5 overall.

The Blue Jays got the start they wanted. Aiden Skari weaved past defends in the middle of the field to score on a 10-yard run. It was the squad's first TD of the opening quarter. Dickinson evened the score on a brilliant play by Stevenson. He eluded rushers and scrambled out of the pocket and found Paxton Lyson for a 26-yard scoring play. Jamestown then scored twice. Skari on a 12-yard run and Edison Walters on a 46-yard pass from Brady Nenow. Walters slipped behind the Dickinson secondary and caught the pass and then danced around one last defender and into the end zone.

Stevenson would connect with Lyson for a second score. However, Braden Hemminger answered on a five-yard run for Jamestown late in quarter three. That set up the final quarter and the Mavs' come-from-behind win.

Next, Dickinson will face St. Mary's, who are 1-0 in the WDA and 3-2 overall, on October 9. Jamestown will look to rebound against Watford City, who hold a 1-0 WDA record and 3-2 overall, also on October 9.
