WILLISTON - Mandan-St. Mary's found itself in a 2-0 deficit just minutes into its road match at Williston on Oct. 3 at WHS Legends Field. By the midway point of the first half, the defict was three. However, the Braves would battle all the way back, scoring three to salvage a 3-3 tie with the Coyotes. Both teams earned a point in the standings, and for the Braves, every point is one step closer to securing a state tournament berth.
Williston's offense started quick and leading scorer, Ryan Serraro, tallied the opener. Two minutes later Diego Vizcaya doubled the lead. And then Mamadou Sow netted the third Coyote goal. It appeared Williston was headed to the halftime locker room with a comfortable lead, but that quickly changed. Trevan Stute and Kylan Hoag scored within a minute for Mandan-St. Mary's. And then in the final seven minuts, Hoag scored again to tie the match.
The Braves now hold a 7-3-3 overall record, while Williston stands at 2-7-4 in the Western Dakota Association. Mandan-St. Mary's will next face Bismarck, who holds a 6-4-4 WDA mark on October 6. Williston will look to build on this result when they meet Minot North, currently 5-6-2 in the WDA, also on October 6.
